I love living in San Diego. You're probably going to hear that about 292,069,379 more times on this blog. You probably love San Diego too so it's fine.
Living in the Imperial Valley, our backyard looked like this:
DIRT FOR DAYS. And days. And days. 3 acres of dirt. Don't get me wrong, kids love dirt and my boys are no different, but the unfortunate reality was that our house wasn't fenced in and there was a major road that ran right in front of it. To make matters even suckier, the only door to the backyard was through the laundry room and the visibility wasn't great. Not cool.
This meant that many days, the boys were stuck with their own devices inside or we had to make a big to-do about going outside to play.
Looking for places to live was sort of a nightmare because we were so indecisive. Do we live near the beach and sacrifice space? Live near my parents and sacrifice the luxury of having friends nearby? Big house with space and lots of cleaning time or smaller place with less to clean? Live in walking distance to shops and restaurants, but lose yard space?
Decisions, such tough decisions.
Once we re-examined our budget, we realized that living in the suburbs was the most affordable way to go. It wasn't until we officially moved in that we felt completely pleased with our decision. It took all of .39 seconds for the boys to discover that they could go in and out to the backyard as they pleased.
We use it for all sorts of things...
...like hanging around
...hair care
...working
...eating
...and attacking each other with hoses
We are making good use of the sunshine and great weather of beautiful San Diego. Currently, the Imperial Valley has been experiencing heat up to the low 100's already. BLECH. Here, there's been a high of 80?
I'm looking forward to many a BBQ, complete with some Coronas and Adrian's world famous (okay, not world, but definitely famous!) tri-tip in this sweet little backyard of ours.
Does summertime equal backyard time for you? Is there really anything better than tri-tip and Corona on a warm summer's afternoon?
